The holiday season is upon us and it’s time for family, fun gatherings, shopping, food, plus more! What better time than to be present?
These days, it seems like so much of our lives revolve around social media. At least, for some of us. Especially when your business is directly linked with staying connected. Lately, I find myself making a conscious effort to “check out” from social media and “check in” to moments shared with my loved ones.
Since our sweet baby Brinkley was born, time seems to fly. It feels like just yesterday we brought her home from the hospital and today she’s nine months old. I find myself valuing time much more as a mom. I feel like if I take my eyes off of her for two seconds, I’ll miss something. Every moment is special.
The same goes for family and friends. As I lose loved ones and they are no longer around to talk to or share special occasions with, I find it more and more important to stay tuned in to the present.
Don’t be that friend on the phone while your girlfriends laugh and catch up on life. You’ll miss out. It is so easy to get caught up in our phones and technology, but I encourage you to set time aside for that when you are alone and have a free moment to yourself. Personally, I don’t want to miss out on special moments with the people I love to tweet, post or comment. Emails can wait.
There is nothing like the present because the future is not guaranteed to anyone. Sit down, relax with someone you care about and soak in some great conversation. Sometimes you just need to listen and support. Put the phone away.
Sure, take photos of your treasured moments and save them to share on social media later. Don’t miss out on the NOW. Be present.
I hope this helps serve as a reminder. I know I certainly need it from time to time.
