Hi friends!
If you have been following me on Instagram, you probably know that my husband and I are on a journey to get debt free. Yep, that’s including the mortgage.
I learned about Dave Ramsey years ago during college and the things he said on his radio show struck a chord with me. Before I heard his principles, I thought everybody had a car note. I thought everybody had credit card debt. I thought everybody had a mortgage payment. The things Dave was saying on his radio show were so weird but made so much sense! After listening to many radio shows and reading his book, I decided I long for the day where I owe no one.
What could I do with no payments? Anything I want!!!!
I created a vision for myself and my future.
And just so you know, I am a natural spender so this is not something that comes easy to me. I love pampering myself and going shopping! It’s so much fun….but I also don’t like the feeling of buyer’s remorse. I have experienced that all too many times in my adult life. There is something about buying my own things that makes me feel independent and powerful.
However, you can also have a closet full of stuff and still feel empty when you haven’t accomplished your financial goals. Being on a budget doesn’t mean you can’t shop or have fun, it’s just means you live within your means. I have people in my life who make a lot of money, but they also spend a lot, too. At the end of the year, they have nothing to show for it. I’ve definitely been there.
In the last few years, my husband and I have become even more laser focused on our goals. We’ve paid off credit cards, car notes, you name it!
The next step is to work on our mortgage. I am really excited because we are joining a weekly Dave Ramsey Financial Peace class at a local church. It will be so nice to be surrounded by like-minded individuals who are working toward the same goals as we are. Having the support of peers and making friends who also believe in financial peace will be so refreshing. I am also ready to move forward to an all-cash system.
Let’s face it. It’s not a normal goal. But as Dave says, “Live like no one else now and you can live like no one else later.” I am SO ready!

Financial freedom is complete freedom in my eyes. How healthy can you be when you are stressed about money? If you are on a similar journey, I’d love to hear from you.
Love, Kelsey
We loooove Dave! We’ve got 3 more debts and then on to the house!
I listen to Dave’s podcast daily and always say I’m going to do it, but give in to temptation. Congratulations on sticking with it! I hope to get the debt snowball rolling this year!
Oh wow! This is hitting close to home. In the last 6 months I made a decision that I want to be debt free…because I wanted financial freedom…with financial freedom anything is possible…you can live the life you want to live! I live within a budget now…I don’t spend unnecessarily. I’ve managed to pay off 4 debts in the time I’ve started this journey. My final goal is to pay off this mortgage. Scares me…but I know it will be all worth it!
Thanks for sharing. I feel encouraged & inspired to seek financial freedom as well I look forward to reading his book or even take one of his courses. Thanks again! You have a beautiful family<3
